It was a little bit over a month ago that Phoenix Zoo announced the birth of a Masai giraffe. They informed that both the mother and the calf were in good health, and they wouldn’t be socializing with visitors for a few weeks while they got familiarized with each other.
And this week, they released some new exciting news! They’ve named the giraffe, and her name is Luna, as in “moon” in Spanish.
“She officially has a name! The Hoofstock chose her name because she was born overnight and her mom’s name is Sunshine”, they wrote next to a video on their Instagram.
Visitors will now be able to meet Luna in the morning. Zookeepers say she’s growing up, but she still needs full attention from her mom.
“Luna and her mom will be on the Savanna most mornings with our other female giraffe, Imara,” they added next to a picture.
Take your family to the zoo this week, and let us know if you caught a glimpse of Luna!
