Learn more about every kind of arachnid this summer at the Arizona Science Center!
The Arizona Science Center is hosting a new exhibit called “The Art and Science of Arachnids,” and we’re sure you’ll want to make plans this week to visit it. Described by the museum as “not a typical bug exhibit,” it features awesome art and interactive activities inspired by these exciting and scary creatures.
The Art of Science of Arachnids features three themed cubes that withhold 100 live arachnids. The first cube discusses different aspects of arachnids, including arachnids that are not spiders or scorpions, deadly spiders of North America, and arachnids in medicine. The Arts Cube illustrates the connection we have with these creatures in film, literature, and music. The last cube, the Culture Cube, highlights arachnid folklore and mythology and arachnids as food. You can enter the cubes and engage with a live arachnid or not! You decide.
Other activities inside the exhibit include:
- Weaving your spider web
- A macro photography art exhibition by Julian Kamzol
- Learn about the types and properties of silk.
- Try on a Kevlar vest.
- Learn how arachnids grow
- Dance the Tarantella, Italian folk dance, and more…
